July 19th: Match report - Junior Championship Football
Meath Junior B Football Championship game between Trim and Blackhall Geals played in Summerhill on Saturday evening last.
Half time score Trim 0-4, Blackhall Gaels 0-5.
Full time score Trim 0-9, Blackhall Gaels 0-8.
Trim qualified for the quarter final with the win over Blackhall Gaels even though they have one game left in the initial league stages. They were the better team in the first half but eight wides left them struggling against opposition that took the initive in the final 10 minutes before half time. Trim got off to a good start with a Mark McCormack pointed free after one minute. Mark Gilsenan got off the mark with a pointed free after four minutes and scored again from play on ten minutes. Blackhall Gaels replied with two points in the eleventh and sixteenth minute. Gilsenan scored Trims last point of the half on twenty four minutes. This was Trims last thro the dice for the first half but Blackhall had different ideas and clocked up three points in the last three minutes of the half. With a one point lead starting the second half Blackhall Gaels forced the pace and put a three point gap between the teams. Trim clocked up two points in the firth and tenth minutes through Gilsenan and McCormack but failed to score again until the thirtieth minute. Trim were trailing by two points at this stage with the end in sight but up popped Mark McCormack to score three points within three minutes to win the game. It could be said that Trim got out of jail. On the other hand they have to get full marks for their persistence and never say die effort up to the very end. A very satisfying win albeit not playing at full par.
