Final Score: Trim 1-12 to Dunsgaughlan 0-11

Meath Senior A Football League game between Trim and Dunshaughlin played in Dunshaughlin last Thursday evening.

The evening was perfect for playing good football. The weather was dry and calm and the Dunshaughlin pitch was in carpet like condition. Historically these conditions suit Trim and they did not disappoint. They served up some excellent football to beat their hosts by 1-12 to 0-11. Other factors that improved Trims performance from their championship defeat four days earlier was the return of Eoin McGrath (post nuptial), the moving of Alan Douglas back to a roving midfielder who collected a lot of ball and his incisive runs through the middle gave Trim added punch, the return of Paul Gilsenan to scoring form clocking up 1-4, the return to the team of David Hegarty and Mark McCormack and the effectiveness of Conor O Keefe at full forward before he got injured.

Dunshaughlin were first on the scoreboard with a point inside the first minute but Trim were quick to respond with a point from the next kickout. Trim pulled away and by mid-half were five points ahead after a converted penalty by Paul Gilsenan on eighteen minutes. The Trim corner backs, Paul Flanagan and Colm Flaherty were kept busy throughout as Dunshaughlins style of play is long no nonsence ball into their fast corner forwards. The two lads marshalled their men well keeping scores low, especially the young Flaherty who had to mark the speedy Cathal O Dwyer. The half ended with Trim ahead by 1-6 to 0-5.

Dunshaughlin scored in the first and fifth minute of the second half but did not score again until the twenty second minute. In the meantime Trim kicked over five points to go into a seven point lead. Four points in the last ten minutes of the game from Dunshaughlin and one from Trim left the full time score 1-12 to 0-11 in Trims favour.
