Hurlers Unlucky To Drop A Point

A Last puck of the game penalty denied Trim hurlers the two points in this exciting Hurling league Div one match played on a brilliant pitch in glorious sunshine at St Loman’s park Trim on Wednesday evening. Neil Cole’s charges had nobody to blame but themselves when the final whistle was blow as during the match they hit fourteen balls wide and dropped the ball short twelve times into the grateful hand of veteran Killyon Keeper Stephen Quinn.
Trim got the first point on the board after just three minutes when Brian Dowling scored from play. In the tenth minute Damo McGee struck the ball to the back of the net to leave his side four point to no score ahead. Killyon then scored the next four points from play to leave the sides level by the sixteenth minute. Then in the seventeenth minute county man Mikey Cullen struck the ball to the back of the net twice in as many minutes. Trim now led by six points and Andy Dinan made it seven with a point from play after twenty minutes of play. Killyon then scored the last two points of the first half to leave five points between the sides at half time.
Half Time Score: Trim 3-2 Killyon 0-6
The sides traded points early on in the second half David Murtagh and Neil Heffernan getting the Trim teams scores from play. Killyon then hit six unanswered points all from play to give themselves a one point lead with ten minutes to go. Charlie Ennis then struck an almighty point from a free deep inside his own half, a strike of just under one hundred and five meters. Killyon then hit two points from play to go two points up with eight minutes of normal time to go. This was to be the Hill Of Down team last score until the sixty third minute. Mikey Cullen scored two points for Trim , His brother James Cullen added another one over the bar. Trim were now a point up with five to play. Brian Dowling in the fifty eight minute put the Reds two up and then Damo McGee put three between the sides in the sixtieth minute. From the puck out James Cullen gained possession gave a great pass to his brother, Mikey dipped past two defenders to leave himself just thirteen meters out , Mikey went for the goal but the fast advancing Killyon keeper Stephen Quinn saved a weak shot from Cullen. Quinn quickly drove the ball up field, a Killyon forward got possession and went for goal he was brought down inside the square to leave refaree Connor Ferguson no choice but to award a penalty. The penalty was scored and Killyon salvaged a point from the jaws of defeat.
