Unlucky start for Trim Footballers.- – Report by John Andrews
They say that goals win games , this was the case in this Div 2A football league match round one match played in a wind swept St Lomans Park yesterday morning . Dunderry scored 3 goals in this match , two of these goals were of the very lucky variety but were also the reason that Dunderry went home with the two points.
Trim started this match brightly and after four minutes youngster Brian Dowling registered his first of four points from play. In the seventh an eleventh minutes disaster struck for Trim with Dunderry scoring two goals. Trim fought back with points from Points from Joe Donoghue(1) Darragh Lynch (2)James Cullen (1) Mark Murray (1) and a brace from ace marks man Brian Dowling.

Trim again started brightly in the second half and added a point from the energetic Darragh Lynch in the thirty first minute. Dunderry then took over and added another goal an two points in the next twelve minutes. The goal was a disaster for Trim and came from a shot for a point which dipped low and eluded both Franky Murphy and Barry Callaghan in the Trim goals.
Trim got back on the score Board shortly after the goal with another point from the impressive Brian “The Beano” Dowling. Dunderry then struck four points on the trot to march into a five point lead with just three minutes remaining. The game seemed to be over at this stage but this youthful Trim team did not throw in the towel . Joe Donoghue scored a point and from the kick out James Cullen gathered the ball and cut the Dunderry defense in half before driving an unstoppable shot to the roof of the Dunderry net. This score left just one point in it with just one minute to play, Trim battled for possession and gained it from a turn over forced by the outstanding Darrell Phelan , Trim worked the ball up the field and manufactured a shot for a point which fell to Ryan Andrews but Andrews shot went to the left of the post and wide.
A couple of interesting stats from this match were all of Trims 1-11 came from play and Dunderry did not score a point until the 38 minute
Trim probably deserved a draw from this match but the goals conceded were the loosing of the match. Brendan Murphy and his management team will be disappointed with the defeat but they will be happy with the never say die attitude from every Trim player. They will also be happy with the fact that they got game time into so many young players with seven of the starting fifteen under the age of twenty.
