U16 Hurlers Win Spring League Final

U16 Summer League Final

Trim U16 hurlers got back to winning ways in this U16 summer league final in Dunganny  last Sunday 13th  August.

Trim lost out to Ratoath earlier in the year in the Spring league but bounced back to win all five games in the group stages to setup a final with Clan Na nGael.

Trim got off to a flying start with Johnathan McEvoy off the mark with a darting run to slot over a point in the opening three minutes. Ian Birmingham added another two minutes after before Clan Na nGael put two over ,  one free and one from play. Clan Na nGael took the lead with another free to go 0-3 to 0-2 up. Mikey Cole then converted a free to level it up. Cole then got in behind the Clan Na nGael defence who were strong throughout to hit the back of the net. The excellent Dylan Farrell added two more points but Clan Na nGael stayed in touch adding two more. Cole then found the net again and converted a ‘65 before Clan Na nGael responded with two more points before half time. Joey Cole stepped into goals for this competition and did a fine job between the posts throughout the competition.

Half time score 2-6 to 0-7.

The Trim defence were outstanding all through with Conor Quigley giving an exhibition of hurling at centre back. Brian Bolger, Ben Holden, Conal Rogers, Harry Harlin and Liam Reilly made all the Clan Na nGael forwards work very hard for any scores and Calum Buckley who came on after returning from injury kept any Clan Na nGael attacks at bay.

Trim opened the second half with three Cole points (1 free) to increase the lead. Clan Na nGael got one back before Farrell found the net with some pace to break the Clan Na nGael defence. Clan Na nGael added two more points before Cole added two points(1 free) and Birmingham added another. Sean O’Mahony finished off by cutting through the Clan Na nGael midfield to score an excellent point.

Final Score 3-13 to 0-10.

The midfield combination of Ian Birmingham and Sean Mahony were excellent and they covered every blade of grass in Dunganny.

The forwards of Cole, McEvoy, Aongus Shortt, Farrell and Danny Coleman worked tirelessly and Conor McKeown kept the Clan Na nGael under pressure all through.

This was a great result for Trim who were also without the services of James Murray and Gary Fleming.
