Trim V’s Dunboyne Sat 13th May
Final Score – Trim 3-15, Dunboyne 1-13
With players tied up with County obligations Trim senior hurlers took to the field with seven players who had already played a full part in a Junior hurling match on Friday evening. Both teams started well on a good pitch on a pleasant evening. Dunboyne quickly put two points on the board before Trim responded with a score of their own.
For the next 10 minutes both teams continued to trade scores with Trim keeping in touch with Dunboyne through scores from Arnie and Damien McGee with Patchy Lenehan, Mickey Cullen and Ciaran Joyce adding to the tally, to leave Trim just one score off Dunboyne with about 10 minutes of the half left. A quick break through the centre of the field afforded Dunboyne an opportunity for a goal which they converted. Two scores each from both sides left the scores at 0-09 to 1-10 to Dunboyne at half time.
Dunboyne upped the pace at the beginning of the second half and added to their scores early on. Trim settled again with a well taken score from Dimi Higgins and a free from Arnie McGee kept them close to Dunboyne. Trim continued to create chances but were guilty of wayward shooting recording a total of ten wides in the second half. With Trim beginning to tire Dunboyne again worked a goal opportunity and began to move away from Trim and one further goal late in the half put paid to Trim’s ambition. Trim kept pressing and put some good scores up from Sean McGee and Gareth White with a late goal from Leighton Massey, well deserved for his good work throughout the game.
Overall the management team weren’t overly disappointed given the tiredness of players that had already played that weekend, another returning from injury and yet another returning not having hurled so far this year.
