Senior Hurlers Back On Track – Senior Hurling League Trim 4-10, Na Fianna 0-20
Trim senior hurlers took to the field against Na Fianna on Easter Monday morning hoping to put to rights the disappointment of their last outing. The morning was a sunny bright one and the opening minutes of the game matched the weather with some lively exchanges between the two sides.
Na Fianna registered the first score with a point in the first minute and Trim responded immediately with a point through Damien McGee. The next 10 minutes saw Na Fianna outscore Trim by 3 points to none and put them into a decent lead, this despite some good hurling by the Trim side but a number of wasteful shots going wide were costly.
Trim got back on track however and scores from Damien McGee, and David Murtagh saw the two sides level after 15 minutes. In the final 15 minutes of the half Trim showed a good killer instinct in front of goal with Arnie McGee and Patrick Lenehan finding the net, these scores along with points from Arnie and Ciaran O’Rourke meant Trim went in at the half time one point to the good, 2-06 to 0-11.
Trim hit a third goal through Leighton Massey shortly after the restart and followed this up quickly with another point. A fourth goal soon followed for the men in red from Damien McGee. Na Fianna rallied over the next period and through some well taken scores and benefitting from a number of frees given away by Trim they narrowed the gap between the sides to 3 points.
Further points from Gareth White and Damien McGee kept the scoreboard moving along and allowed Trim to keep their noses in front and see out the game to win by 2 points in the end. This was a much improved performance by the Trim men and every player put in a very good shift throughout the game. The management team of Neilly Cole and Damien (Red) Loran were much encouraged by this win and left Baconstown buoyed by the result.
