Intermediate Footballers Bow out of CnaB Cup

Corn na Boinne (Intermediate) football cup round 2 – Trim v Bective.

Result…..Trim 1-14, Oldcastle 2-12.

This Cup game was played on Sunday morning last morning in Trim. Playing against the stiff and cold breeze the home side gripped the initiative and hit four points without reply in the first ten minutes but within the following six minutes the visitors were level with four points in reply. The Trim side hit another inspired patch between the twenty first and twenty sixth minutes when clocking up 1-4 to forge five points ahead. Both sides swapped two points apiece in the final minutes of the half to leave the half time score at  Trim 1-8, Bective 0-6.

With five points to spare and the stiff breeze on their backs one would have expected the Trim lads to re-enter the fray and advance further but Bective defied this logic and tore up this script by hitting 1-3 in the first nine minutes of the second half to lead by one point. A point apiece was traded in the following four minutes but the home side gained some composure and fired over three points to lead by two points with five minutes of time left. Bective pulled back one of them points before Trim clocked two to lead by three points in the twenty ninth minute. With two minutes of injury time to be played Bective pulled the lead back to two points and then on the cusp of full time a high ball landed in a crowded Trim goal mouth and after a scramble the ball ended in the back of the net to leave the final score at Trim 1-14, Bective 2-12 with the latter winning by a point and advancing to the next round.

Best for Trim were the full forward line of Darragh Lynch, Eoin  O’Connor and Michael Cullen who between then hit 1-10. They were ably assisted by centre forward Darryl Phelin who was a busy play maker and chipped in with three points. Recent transferee to the club Nigel Duignan excelled when sprung from the bench and Luke Moran in his new role at full back had an assured game looking comfortable in front of goal.
