Meath All County Football B League, Trim 0-6, Walterstown 1-10.
Trim’s second team of players made the journey to Walterstown to play the home side in the third round of the Meath football B league last Wednesday evening. The first half was a one sided affair with the home side doing all of the scoring and Trim failing to get on the scoreboard. The Trim backs were under pressure throughout the half and but for some good defending they could have been a lot worse off at half time than five points down. The fact that they did not register on the scoreboard for the first thirty minutes does not reflect the effort of the Trim lads but poor passing and shooting in front of goals left them trailing but five points to nil at the break.
Walterstown increased the gap to six points immediately after the resumption but then the Reds found their shooting boots. From the fifth to the twelfth minute they hit four points to decrease the deficit to two thanks to a brilliant left footed effort from Sean Fitzgerald, two frees from Keith Hamilton and a point from Ciaran Joyce. A comeback looked on the cards at this stage but unfortunately that was as good as it got as Walterstown upped the ante again and for the following fifteen minutes hit 1-4 to leave the Trim lads reeling with three minutes left and nine points down. Two consolation points from Seamus Rochfort and Gary Clarke in the dying minutes brought Trim back within seven points.
The Trim team was: Garret White, Eoin Kelly, David Foley, James Andrews, Darryl Phelin, Keith Hamilton, Darren Melia, Cian Dunne, Sean Fitzgerald, David Gibney, Ciaran Joyce, Andrew O’Brien, Gary Clarke, Ryan Kenny, Sean McGee.
The Trim subs were: John McGrath, Seamus Rochfort.
The Trim scorers were: Keith Hamilton 0-2, Sean Fitzgerald 0-1, Ciaran Joyce 0-1, Seamus Rochfort 0-1, Gary Clarke 0-1.
