Result: Meath Junior A Football Championship. Trim 2-1, Kilmainhamwood 4-13.
Trim’s second team engaged Kilmainhamwood in the second round of the Junior A football championship at Simonstown on Sunday last. The strong wind controlled the shape of the game and with the young Trim lads pitted against it in the first half it was difficult to progress up the field. Nonetheless by the twenty third minute mark they were only two points the worst at 1-3 to 1-1. But from then until the end of the half it was all Kilmainhamwood pressure as they camped in the Trim defence and were rewarded with a score of 1-4 to leave a gap of nine points at the break.
There was some respite for the Trim lads in the first ten minutes of the second half. With the wind on their backs they attacked on a number of occasions and got their second goal of the game in the sixth minute to take the deficit back to six. From then on the stronger North Meath side controlled proceedings and scored 2-5 to Trim’s nought.
The Trim team was: Thomas Barry, Shane Downes, Sean McDonagh, Jamie Lee, Andrew O’Brien, David Foley, Shane O’Connor, Sean Fitzgerald, Cian Dunne, Shane Lenehan, Keith Hamilton, Sean McGee, Gary Clarke, Niall Murray, Ciaran O’Rourke.
The Trim subs were: Gavin O’Neill, Eoin Kelly, Karl Dwyer.
